7 Steps in Growing Spiritually as a Christian / Mature in faith

Looking for ways to keep the faith that you started with Jesus? New converts in the kingdom of God often force themselves into the wilderness of no growth. They are compared to chaffs in the wind without direction of getting forward for the journey. For a brand new Christian, taking the right steps will hasten him in knowing the Lord better and sweeter each day.

Step 1 – Daily Bible Reading

A part of the lyrics of a children’s song goes like this, “Read your bible…everyday…” The Word of God or the bible is the food of the spirit. There’s no way to grow up without taking a passion to read the bible in a consistent and habitual basis. Look for a bible reading plan that fits you. Though many suggested to start with the book of John when you are a new believer. Then, you can add up two chapters a day on Psalms and a chapter a day on Proverbs. “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:2) Once you make bible reading a habit, you create an atmosphere of prayer. You can use the MPCWA method of devotion for this part.

Step 2. Daily Prayer

To grow as a Christian is to know the Lord in a deeper way. Such can be done through the inner chamber. Set a time to meet the Lord daily. This is the time to open your heart to God. Prayer is honestly telling God what you feel of Him. Tell Him that you love Him. Tell God about the concerns of your life.

“praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints…” Ephesians 6:18.

A daily relationship with God is available through direct communication in prayer.

Step 3. Worship the Lord with spiritual songs

The Word of God and prayer create the atmosphere of worship. Just after reading the bible and prayer, never leave your room without worshiping the Lord. It is important to express your worship by singing a song unto the Lord. In worship, don’t be afraid for tears to flow.

“speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,” (Eph. 5:19)

Step 4. Attend Sunday worship services

To be strongly connected with the Lord, meet with other believers every Sunday. Keep Sunday as your Day to express your love to God. Meeting with belivers on Sunday (Hebrews 10:25) is for teaching, fellowship, worship, communion, prayer and to build one another up in the faith (Acts 2:42-47).

Step 5. Join Christian smallgroups

We call it Lifegroup but is popularly known cellgroup. Ask for your pastor if they have lifegroup that is near to you. In school, there are campus smallgroups to strengthen you in the Lord.

“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts…” (Acts 2:46)

Step 6. Get involved in the ministry

To be part of a lifegroup sharpens your walk with the Lord. Find your place in the smallgroup and aspire to be a lifegroup leader. Be a witness for Christ as lifegroup brings that chance to you. To be active in the Kingdom of God will always maintain that relationship.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

Step 7. Obedience to God

As you find your way in the ministry. Obey the Lord and apply the biblical principles in all areas of your life. Following the Master keeps a person away from sinning.

You will enjoy   your journey as a Christian by doing these steps.
